With the pollution level having assumed alarming proportion in Delhi, Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has been blaming Haryana and Punjab for the blanket of deadly smog. Kejriwal’s comments also smacked of his bid to politicise the problem that Delhi is facing. But if Union Environment Minister Anil Dave is to be believed, then it is the Kejriwal government which is to be blamed for the situation to reach such an alarming level. Anil Dave has categorically told Times Now news channel that his ministry and Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) had given the Kejriwal government a clear-cut advisory in December 2015 itself, warning if certain steps, as suggested in the advisory with areas being pointed out, were not taken by them timely then alarming situation of pollution will be unavoidable in Delhi.
According to the news channel, the advisory of the Central government was issued on December 29, 2015 in which areas had been suggested where the Delhi government was sought to adopt measures in time-bound manner. But by all indications, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government did not act in accordance with the advisory and went on to ignore it. As a result, Delhi has been reeling under the deadly blanket of smog for the last seven days.
